OUR MISSION

The Mission of PCG Worship Center is to change lives, build the community, and reach the world while doing the father’s business. We will exemplify the concept of Word Worship and Work.

OUR VISION

Our Vision is to ensure that there is a place for everybody and everybody has a place as we glorify and obey the Great Commission of Jesus Christ by proclaiming the gospel in its fullness, and equip people to reach all nations so that Christ becomes preeminent in every life.

OUR HISTORY

In 1929, Elder Elijah Hunt came to Davenport to begin a work for the Lord. Unable to find a place to worship, Elder Hunt along with two saints, held church meetings in various homes. In 1933, Elder Hunt sold his home for a larger house and for ten years this was the first Pentecostal Church of God building. After his soon departure, this remnant fervently prayed and advertised in the Christian Outlook for a new Pastor.

In May 1951, the prayers of the righteous were answered. Elder Alfred L. Boyd, who was later to become Bishop A. L. Boyd, came from Indianapolis, IN. On October 4, 1951, Elder and Sis. Lillian Boyd were married and installed as Pastor and First Lady of the Pentecostal Church of God on the same evening. Six months later, the church purchased the wooden frame building and parsonage on Sixth and Warren and stayed there until 1966. At this time the church had eleven members, including Bishop and Mother Boyd. However, after 14 years of Bishop Boyd’s powerful preaching, the church increased significantly and needed to purchase a larger facility. As Bishop Boyd sought God’s wisdom and guidance, God lead the church to a building on 537 West 15th Street. After a jubilant move, the church was dedicated on May 30, 1966. After his faithful service to the Pentecostal Church of God, Bishop Boyd transitioned home to glory in 1979. Six years later, after a job well done, Mother Boyd passed in 1985.

Elder McArthur Anderson and Sister Esther Anderson were selected as the new Pastor and First Lady. As Elder Anderson was elevated to Bishop, the church continued to thrive and prosper under his tremendous visionary leadership. As the congregation grew, God gave Bishop Anderson a vision to build a new edifice in the heart of the Central City of Davenport, IA, to more greatly impact the Quad City Community. In one Sunday, members collectively pledged $25,000 – enough for a down payment for a new church. Going from vision to reality, in 1992, the completion of a $2 million edifice at 1234 Ripley Street was complete. Building on a firm foundation, Bishop Anderson and Lady Esther bridged generational gaps and positioned the church for 21st Century Ministry. After serving faithfully as Pastor and First Lady for 35 years, Bishop and Lady Anderson retired in November 2013, and were able to see the church’s legacy live on as the torch was passed to their son and daughter
